Atauro is a mountainous island, with the highest being Mount Manukoko at 998 metres. There is a walking trail that leads to the summit/top of this peak. We can arrange a local guide to take you up the mountain which is not for the faint hearted. (approx a 6 hour walk from Vila Maumeta village)

 

You can also walk to the western side of Atauro and visit Adara village where you can snorkel and relax on the beach, and have lunch at the local eco-lodge - Mario's Place Adara. This is an easier walk but still takes some time. (approx 6 hours)

 

Due to the potentially hazardous nature of walks on the island, guests are asked to leave their names, contact details and planned route with Barry or his staff before embarking on adventurous hiking expeditions. Hikers trekking to Mount Manukoko must be accompanied by a local guide.

A local guide for these treks/hikes is US$20.00 for the entire trek.
